Perfect Perfectionist Perfecting Perfectionism

Ah perfection. The nagging characteristic that plagues most of us. Consumed by all the minutia that we try to control. The perfect vacation, wedding, meal, partner, business, outfit, make-up, hair style, skin, workout, diet, game, blah, blah, blah. Not to mention all of the perfect pictures taken of all of the above.

It's no wonder we are consumed with wanting everything perfect though. We are constantly being fed the "picture perfect" everything from advertisements and social media. This includes all of the "perfect diets" and ways to lose weight, gain muscle, and get the body you've always dreamed of.

The truth is that there is nothing that will ever be perfect. No diet, workout, body, partner, vacation, wedding, picture, etc. Nothing is perfect. No, not even you. With that being said, you weren't meant to be perfect. While you want skills and characteristics in life that speak for themselves with an altruistic punch to everyone's faces,

figuring out that creating your perfect world isn't ideal is like hitting a grand slam to win the World Series. Cue the Happy Dance.

Perfect is delusional. Being great on the other hand is achievable. I think that working hard at everything you do and not being afraid of failure is part of what striving for greatness is. Treating others how you'd like to be treated, being happy with where you are in life, taking it easy on filing complaints to the Great Oz, and not paying so close attention to all the minutia are other behaviors that lead to greatness.

Stop right now and have a look in the mirror. Smile. Wave. Pick your nose. Just kidding. Don't pick your nose. I'm sure some of you did though. What do you see? Tell yourself "Hey self. I'm happy you're here and I'm happy that you're you. I'm proud of you and you don't need to be or look like __________."

Work at being you. It takes time and experience to figure out who you are and who you are changes as life goes on. You learn. You grow. If there's one nugget of truth I want you to take away from this, it's to never stop doing just that. We are all individuals. We are different with hints of similarities, but there is only one of each of us on this planet. Remember that out of the 7.6 BILLION people there's miraculously only one YOU. Make you great. Not perfect.

Here's an example of great. Picking up heavy things and carrying them with your gym family. Struggling together is GREAT.
